How This One Is Made
The only piece in the collection where the brass is taken all the way to a polish. Hammer marks are worked out with progressively finer abrasive and then the band is brought up bright, which takes far longer than leaving the texture in.
A polished band beside plain wood would look hard, so the stem is stained warm before it is oiled to bring the amber up in the grain and meet the brass halfway. The two are finished to sit at the same brightness rather than one against the other.
It will not stay this bright. Polished brass takes a patina from handling within weeks, and the piece is designed to look better for it, settling into the warm dull gold the rest of the collection starts at.
