The object
What Makes a Sebsi
A sebsi is a long-stemmed Moroccan pipe. Knowing how one is put together tells you what will arrive, how consistent a repeat order will be, and what to tell a customer who asks.
- The stemBored before it is shaped, then turned or carved from one length of hardwood. Boring first is what keeps the channel true, and it is why our reject rate sits at the bench rather than in your stockroom.
- The shqafA clay bowl, hand-formed and fired in small batches. The socket is sized against a sample stem, so bowls and stems from the same order seat together.
- The brassAnnealed, hammered round the joint and burnished one piece at a time. Nothing is cast or machined, so no two collars are identical and none of them work loose.
