How This One Is Made
This is the simplest construction in the collection and the boldest to look at. The stem is turned, blackened and left matte, and the decoration is concentrated into three or four blocks rather than run continuously down the length.
Each block is built up in layers: a pale band, then a dyed band, then pale again, seated and trimmed so the block reads as one solid ring rather than as separate wraps. Because the colour is dyed rather than natural, the tone moves a little between batches, and we group pieces so a shop receives a matched set.
The black is kept matte on purpose. Polishing the stem would put a shine next to the polished bands and flatten the contrast that the piece is built around. Brass closes each end.
